When This Medicine Should Not Be Used: You should not use this medicine if you or your child have had an allergic reaction to yeast, yeast products, glycerin (glycerol), or papain. |
How to Use This Medicine: Liquid - Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed. You or your child might take the first and second dose of this medicine at your doctor's office. This is done to see if you or your child are allergic to the medicine.
- Measure your dose by using the scoop that comes with the medicine or by counting the correct number of drops from the bottle. Rinse the dosing scoop with water after each use.
- Take the medicine with each meal or snack. Mix the medicine with 2 to 4 ounces (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup) of water, milk, or infant formula. Do not mix the medicine with fruit juice. The water, milk, or formula should be cold or at room temperature. You should not use warm or hot liquids because heat will keep the medicine from working as well. Do not warm or heat the liquid after you put the medicine in it.
- Take one-half of the medicine at the beginning of your meal or snack, and the rest at the end of the meal or snack.
- Your doctor may tell you or your child to limit the amount of starch that you eat. Carefully follow any special diet that your doctor gives you.
- Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid: Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. - Do not mix the medicine with fruit juice. The acid in juice may keep the medicine from working as it should.

Warnings While Using This Medicine: - Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you or your child have diabetes.
- This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions. Check with your doctor right away if you or your child have a rash; itching; swelling of the face, tongue, and throat; trouble with breathing; or chest pain after using this medicine.
- Your doctor may order a skin test before you or your child start using this medicine. The skin test is used to see if you have an allergy to sacrosidase. Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your home has ever had a positive skin test reaction to sacrosidase.
- Check with your doctor before using this medicine if you have diabetes. This medicine will help your body absorb sugar and can change the level of sugar in your blood. Your doctor may need to change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine: Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: - Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Chest pain.
- Swelling in your face.
- Wheezing or trouble with breathing.
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor: - Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
- Headache.
- Nervousness.
- Trouble with sleeping.
