  • Follow the instructions on the medicine label if you are using this medicine without a prescription.
  • Apply this medicine around your anal area up to 4 times daily. It is best to use this medicine in the morning, after a bowel movement, or before you go to bed.
  • Rectal suppository instructions:
    • Remove the foil or wrapper from the suppository before you insert it.
    • To make the suppository easier to insert, you may use a lubricating gel such as K-Y® Jelly, but do not use petroleum jelly (Vaseline®).
    • Lie on your left side with your left leg straight or slightly bent, and your right knee bent upward. Gently push the pointed end of the suppository into the rectum about 1 inch.
    • Keep lying down for about 15 minutes to keep the suppository from coming out before it melts. Then, wash your hands again.
  • Cream instructions:
    • The cream may be used on the outer anal area or placed just inside your rectum. Ask your doctor if you are not sure where you should use the medicine.
    • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after you use this medicine. When possible, clean your anal area and gently dry the area before you apply the medicine.
    • To apply the cream inside your rectum, attach the applicator tip to the medicine tube. To make the applicator easier to insert, you may coat it with a lubricating gel such as K-Y® Jelly. Insert the tip gently into your rectum and squeeze the tube to release the cream. Then apply a small amount of cream to the outside of your anal area.
    • Wash the applicator with soap and water, and put the protective cap back on.
  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
